Stop Dunoon Dam ~ ReThink Water
This is urgent.
If they initiate the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in December, it sets the dam in motion.
Save rainforest. Save heritage. Tell Rous to ReThink Water.
We need to ReThink Water!
We need to look at options that were overlooked.
This ReThink must be based on a commitment to:
- the All Options on the Table approach
- respect and follow the stated wishes of the Aboriginal stakeholders
- the planning hierarchy of ‘Avoid first. Minimise second. Offset last’
- openness and true public consultation
- system-wide water efficiency such as that outlined by Dr Stuart White
- increase water literacy in the region
Rous used a flawed process to get us to this point.
Water experts warn that new dams are ‘high risk investments’ (All Options on the Table 2020)
But Rous have failed to provide for system reliability in a hotter drier climate – an important responsibility.
They have ignored system resilience. This makes us vulnerable, not resilient, in conditions of drought and climate change.
